Cracking the female entrepreneur code

A Swiss based company is choosing to challenge the status quo in a traditionally male dominated industry.  

Sundays Hard Seltzer is a woman founded and led independent beverage brand with the mission of changing the way Switzerland drinks. The company is focused on developing delicious, lightly flavored alcoholic sparkling water while holding strong to their core values of responsibility, sustainability and healthful living. 


#ChooseToChallenge, the theme of the 46th annual International Women’s Day, celebrates women’s achievements and increased visibility while calling out inequality. 


“The beverage industry and gastronomy in general is historically male-centric,” says Katy Lee, Sundays co-founder and CEO. “With Sundays Hard Seltzer, we  are bringing a fresh perspective to the alcoholic drinks space, with a focus on crafting a natural, fun and refreshing alcohol alternative that supports healthful indulgence.”


“As a female-led Swiss brand, celebrating  women’s achievements takes on an even greater significance for us in 2021, as Switzerland celebrates the 50 year anniversary of women winning the right to vote” continues Katy.

Right from the start it was important for the team at Sundays Hard Seltzer to create a product that they wanted to drink, a product that did not exist in the Swiss market.  It was also critical for them to create a beverage that had mass appeal, as male consumers make up 50% of the global hard seltzer market, upending gender perceptions of the beverage.


Katy adds: 

“Our goal is to create high quality drinks that we are proud of. For us that meant producing locally, using only simple, natural ingredients and supporting our community through clean water initiatives, carbon offsetting and working to produce in fully recycled containers.”


By developing a hard seltzer that reflects her values, Katy and the Sundays team have succeeded in bringing something completely different to the Swiss alcoholic beverage market.


“Navigating the Swiss beverage industry has proven challenging” remarks Katy, “but by staying true to ourselves and our core values we have managed to differentiate ourselves and successfully create a brand that we are proud of.”
